The Atlantic League of Professional Baseball and the York Revolution have announced that first baseman/outfielder Chris Ashby, and right-handed starting pitcher Aaron Rakers have each earned Atlantic League Player of the Month honors for July. The monthly awards are determined by league personnel and team front office members.

Ashby, a 33-year-old right-handed power hitter from Boynton Beach, Florida hit .398 (43-108) in 25 games in July, stroking seven home runs, seven doubles and a triple, while driving in 32 runs in the month. On the season, Ashby is batting .369 with 13 home runs and 52 RBI, in 62 games after signing with the Revolution on May 28. In his 16th season of professional baseball, Ashby joined York after spending the 2007 season with the Triple-A Albuquerque Isotopes of the Pacific Coast League, an affiliate of the Florida Marlins. He has also spent time in the New York Yankees, Los Angeles Dodgers, Texas Rangers and Chicago White Sox organizations.

Rakers, 31, is in his ninth season as a professional. A resident of Baltimore, he made six appearances including four starts in July, posting a 3-1 record and a 2.70 ERA in 30.0 innings of work. Allowing just a .254 average against, Rakers struck out 32 batters in the month, while walking just six. On the season, he is 8-6 overall, in 21 appearances and 16 starts. In 103.0 innings, Rakers has struck out 83, opposed to just 26 walks. A veteran of the Major Leagues who spent time with the Baltimore Orioles in 2004 and 2005, Rakers split last season between the San Diego Padres and their Triple-A affiliate, the Portland Beavers of the Pacific Coast League.

“We’re extremely proud to sweep the Player of the Month awards for July,” said York Revolution General Manager Matt O’Brien. “Chris and Aaron have been a huge part of our improved play since the season began, so congratulations to them.”
