Revolution Teaming Up With Non-profit Group, Bringing Yearly Tradition To Ballpark
As part of the York Revolution’s continuing efforts to help non-profit groups and expand their involvement in the York Community, the Revolution have now teamed up with the York Jaycees to bring the Jaycees’ annual Chili Cook-Off to Sovereign Bank Stadium. The event will be held Saturday, May 23 on the Brooks Robinson Plaza from noon until 5pm.
The York Jaycees Chili Cook-Off is a major fundraising project that directly and immediately benefits the York Community, with proceeds going to charities designated by the participating teams. More than 30 teams participated in 2008, and 2009 marks the 21st anniversary of the event.
The event is always a hit with local companies, who can enter teams into the corporate category, but anyone may put a team together to raise money for their favorite charity. Some of the teams also participate in an additional competition sponsored by Chili Appreciation Society International, with separate judging and awards.
The prize money won by teams along with part of the admission cost goes toward the charities of the teams’ choosing. Money raised by the Jaycees goes into the Jaycees’ grant fund that local organizations apply for.
“The Jaycees are looking forward to holding our annual Chili Cook-Off at Sovereign Bank Stadium this year,” said York Jaycees President Zach Zimmerman. “This has become a premier event for York and a wonderful benefit to local community organizations. With this partnership, the Cook-Off can only grow and have continued success.”
The event is one of two major Jaycees fundraisers, which helps the Jaycees give in excess of $15,000 back to the community each year.
“We’re excited to host such a well-respected, well-attended fundraising event like the Jaycees Chili Cook-Off here at Sovereign Bank Stadium,” said Revolution assistant general manager Neil Fortier. “It will be exciting to see who will claim 2009 bragging rights!”
The York Jaycees is a not-for-profit, leadership training organization that focuses on community service. It is open to all young men and women, ages 21 to 40, residing in the greater York, Pennsylvania area. It is a chapter of the Pennsylvania Jaycees, the United States Junior Chamber of Commerce and Junior Chamber International (JCI), a global organization.
