  DePaula Orioles

Right-hander is third York player to have contract purchased by
MLB organization this season, 32nd all-time.

The York Revolution has announced that right-handed pitcher Julio DePaula’s contract has been purchased by the Baltimore Orioles.  DePaula becomes the third member of the 2014 Revolution pitching staff to sign with a Major League organization, and the 32nd player in Revs history to earn a contract in-season.  Fellow right handers Anthony Lerew (Angels) and Mike McClendon (Rockies) had their contracts purchased in late May.

DePaula, who was arguably the most dependable bullpen arm for the Revolution last season, spending the duration with York, carried a 2.89 ERA in 50 appearances over 56 innings.  The Dominican native has been even more impressive this season, posting a 2.42 ERA in 28 games and 29 innings thus far.  He struck out 30, walking only eight in that time, and has been consistently throwing in the mid-90s.

With the uptick in velocity, DePaula appears Major League ready.  Should he ascend to Baltimore, it would complete a remarkable seven-year MLB comeback.  He appeared in 16 games out of the Minnesota Twins bullpen in 2007, his only big league service time to this point.

DePaula becomes the third York player in-season to sign with the nearby Orioles, and the first since 2009.  Outfielder Tike Redman was the first player in franchise history to have his contract purchased by an MLB organization on May 14, 2007, and became the first Rev alum to reach the Majors, appearing in 40 games with Baltimore later that season.  Infielder Brandon Pinckney had his contract purchased by the Orioles on May 20, 2009.  Current Revolution first baseman Chad Tracy spent all of spring training with Baltimore this year, appearing in MLB games, between ending last season with York and returning to the Atlantic League.

With myriad alums currently playing at Triple-A, the next former Rev to reach Major League Baseball will be the sixth in franchise history and the list may be growing exponentially in the near future.
