BARCELO BLANKS RIVERSHARKS, FINISHING WHAT HE STARTED IN GAME TWO
Pitching and timely hitting ruled the day as the York Revolution swept a twi-night doubleheader from the Camden Riversharks, winning 5-2 and 3-0 at Sovereign Bank Stadium. The Revs, now leading the second half standings by 4.0 games, will go for the series sweep on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. Lorenzo Barcelo (3-0) stymied the Sharks with a complete game three-hit shutout in the nightcap, while Corey Thurman (11-3) won his tenth consecutive decision head-to-head against Thurman allowed just two runs in five innings in game one. The 11 wins ranks second in the league (tops among active pitchers), and ties the highest total of his Revs career, having won double figures in three of his four seasons in a York uniform. He is one win shy of matching the Revs’ single-season club record. He also now owns a club record-tying five-game winning streak for the second time this season. The Revs built a lead in the opener scoring in four consecutive innings, beginning with a double play in the second inning hit into by Vince Harrison to plate the first run. Ramon Castro drove in a run on a ground rule double with two outs in the third, Noah Hall’s two-run homer in the sixth inning accounted for R.J. Rodriguez retired all three batters faced in relief of Thurman in the sixth, and Michael Nix earned his 17th save with a perfect seventh. Barcelo was the story in game two, facing just one batter over the minimum. He allowed only three singles, the first two of which were erased on attempted steals as catcher Salvador Paniagua threw out both Ruddy Yan in the first and Juan Francia in the third. Barcelo faced the minimum through 5.2 innings, and ended the game with back-to-back strikeouts for his third win in three starts. He has tossed seven scoreless innings in two of those three starts. Jose Herrera drove in a first inning run on a single up the middle and added an RBI groundout in the third. Nowak also delivered an RBI single in the third for Scott Grimes scored two runs in each game of the doubleheader. Herrera went a combined 4-for-6 at the plate as the Revs pounded 11 hits in each game. Notes: The doubleheader sweep is the Revs’ second this season, both vs. |
