THURMAN CLAIMS ANOTHER PIECE OF REVOLUTION HISTORY WITH BIG ROAD WIN IN CAMDEN
Corey Thurman made history on Friday night tying the York Revolution’s all-time single-season wins record with his 12th victory of the season, as the Revs earned a series win with a 5-4 victory over the Camden Riversharks in front of 5,436 fans at Thurman (12-3) tied Wayne Franklin (2008) for the most wins in a season in club history, while also establishing the club’s record for longest personal winning streak with his sixth consecutive winning decision. He allowed just two runs on four hits in 6.1 innings, improving to 11-1 lifetime against the Riversharks in the process, his 11th consecutive win head-to-head against The Revs fell behind in the first inning, as Alvin Colina lined a two-out RBI single to right field for the game’s first run, but Thurman did not allow another hit until the sixth inning. York broke through in the sixth inning as Bryant Nelson lined an RBI single to left field tying the game, and Vince Harrison followed with the game’s biggest hit, a three-run homerun to centerfield, lifting York on top 4-1. Colina led off the bottom of the seventh with a homerun to left cutting the lead to 4-2 but after Thurman retired the next batter, lefty Kris Regas made his Revs debut recording the final two outs in the inning. Lloyd Turner rapped an RBI double to right field with one out in the bottom of the eighth pulling Camden within 4-3, but reliever Sean Stidfole came back to strike out Colina and retire Willis Otanez on a groundball back to the mound, stranding two runners including the tying run at second base. The Revs plated an important insurance run in the ninth as Scott Grimes led off with a triple off the fence in left-center, and scored when Chris Walker’s pop up dropped in shallow right for a base hit. Grimes raced home to score the run, his league-leading 90th run of the season. Jake Eigsti connected on a solo homerun to left-center with two outs in the ninth, but R.J. Rodriguez retired Juan Francia on a grounder back to the mound to record his seventh save and second in as many nights. The Revs pounded out 13 hits, one night after posting a dozen in the hit column. Grimes and Walker each went 3-for-5 at the top of the order. Notes: Thurman’s six-game winning streak also ties the longest streak of his professional career, set in 2001 with Double-A Wichita and matched with two victories at the end of the 2009 season followed by four more to start the 2010 campaign. The Revs have won back-to-back games, earning a series win after dropping their opener. The four runs allowed by the Revs were the most in the three-game series. |
