MOUND DOMINANCE CONTINUES FOR REVS WHO SHRINK MAGIC NUMBER TO FIVE

Bryant Nelson ripped a tiebreaking RBI single to left-center in the eighth inning and the York Revolution turned in another outstanding pitching performance, edging the Somerset Patriots 2-1 in front of 5,421 fans at TD Bank Ballpark in Bridgewater, NJ on Saturday night.  The York win, coupled with a Lancaster loss, increases the Revs’ Freedom Division lead to 5.0 games, while lowering their magic number to clinch to five.  The two teams will play a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon beginning at 1:35 p.m.

York starter Lorenzo Barcelo (4-0) earned the win, allowing just six hits and one run in seven innings.  He carried a shutout into the seventh before allowing a game-tying seeing-eye single up the middle to Matt Hagen, but finished the seventh to earn his fourth win in five starts.

Ramon Castro led off the eighth inning with a single to left off reliever Casey Cahill, and stole second base with one out.  Castro advanced to third on a wild pitch, and scored when Nelson greeted oncoming reliever Jeff Kennard with a single to left-center.

Ronnie Morales recorded the first two outs in the eighth, and Michael Nix set down Jeff Nettles on a check swing grounder with the tying run on base to end the inning.

R.J. Rodriguez worked a perfect ninth for his third save in as many nights, becoming just the third pitcher in Revs history to save three consecutive games.

York struck first with a third inning run on an RBI double to left field by Jose Herrera, the only run allowed by Patriots starter Bill Pulsipher in six innings, despite allowing nine hits.

Cahill (2-2) suffered the loss for the Patriots.

Notes: The Revs have tied the club record at 19 games over .500.  They’ve reached 67 victories in just 115 games; their previous quickest mark to 67 victories was 133 games in 2010.  York’s pitching has worked a 1.71 ERA over the last five games.  The Revs are now 16-11 in their last 27 road games, and are now 26-24 overall on the road this season; one more win would clinch a finish of above .500 on the road in the regular season, something the Revs have never accomplished in club history.  York’s Shaun Garceau will face Somerset’s Jim Magrane in game one of Sunday’s doubleheader, with the Revs sending Justin Edwards to the mound opposite Luke Sommer in the second game.  First pitch is set for 1:35 p.m.  Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 1350 and Shoutcast.com (WPDC) beginning at 1 p.m. with Darrell Henry on the call.
