Patriots Sweep Revs In Doubleheader Behind Dominant Pitching

The Somerset Patriots defeated the York Revolution 4-2 Sunday evening at TD Bank Ballpark.  The Patriots received another dominant outing from their starter as Luke Sommer threw six strong innings.  With the win, the Patriots have swept the Revs in the days’ doubleheader with one more game of the series remaining that will be played Monday night.  With the two losses on the day, the Revs magic number remains at five.

The Revs got things going in the first inning to take an early 1-0 lead.  With LF Chris Walker reaching base on an error, he came across the plate on a double smacked by SS Ramon Castro.

Somerset answered with four runs in the bottom of the third inning thanks to some help from York.  With the bases loaded, Revs starter Justin Edwards walked 1B Joe Burke and 2B Matt Hagen and also hit DH Justin Huber with a pitch to bring them all across the plate.  The Patriots tacked on one more run in the inning when C Yusuf Carter slapped a single to bring in Burke giving them a 4-1 lead.

York cut their deficit down by one run in the top of the fourth making it a 4-2 game.  As DH Bryant Nelson singled early in the inning, he was driven in on a double hit by C Octavio Martinez.

Somerset’s Sommer earned the win (4-4) in six innings of work allowing two runs off of seven hits while striking out two.  Closer Ryan Houston pitched the seventh inning for his ninth save and second on the day.

Revolution starter Justin Edwards took the loss (1-1) only lasting two and two-thirds innings giving up all four Patriot runs off of six hits and four walks.

The final game of the series will be played Monday night at 7:05 with Revs RHP Nick Schumacher (1-1, 3.14) taking the mound against the Patriots’ righty Chris Oxspring (4-8, 4.37) at TD Bank Ballpark. Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 1350 and Shoutcast.com (WPDC) beginning at 6:30 p.m. with Darrell Henry on the call.
