SCHUMACHER SHUTS DOWN PATRIOTS IN FINAL GAME OF ROAD TRIP, MAGIC NUMBER IS FOUR

The York Revolution received yet another masterful start from Nick Schumacher, who combined on a three-hitter in the final game of the Revs’ seven-game road trip defeating the Somerset Patriots 4-1 on Monday evening in front of 3,078 fans at TD Bank Ballpark in Bridgewater, NJ.  The Revs now lead the Freedom Division’s second half by 3.5 games and lower their magic number to four, in advance of returning home for the regular season’s final homestand beginning on Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m.

Schumacher (2-1) allowed just one run on three hits in 7.2 innings for the win.  He has worked at least 7.0 innings in all three of his starts, allowing three runs or fewer in all three.  R.J. Rodriguez recorded a four-out save to finish it, his ninth of the season.

York scored a first inning run as Scott Grimes led off the game with a double, moved to third on a balk, and scored on an RBI single by Chris Walker.

Walker delivered again in the fifth inning with a two-out, two-run single extending York’s lead to 3-0.

The Revs added an unearned run in the eighth when Salvador Paniagua singled with two outs and scored on an error by right fielder Michael Hernandez.

Schumacher was one out away from working eight scoreless innings, before allowing a single and a walk with two outs in the eighth.  Reliever Ronnie Morales issued a bases loaded walk to Elliott Ayala, but Rodriguez came on to retire Fernando Cortez on a fielder’s choice to leave the bases loaded, before setting down all three batters faced in the ninth to close out the win.

Somerset starter Chris Oxspring (4-9) took the loss, charged with all four runs (three earned) while lasting eight innings.

Notes: The Revs close the regular season with a 27-26 road record, finishing above .500 on the road for the first time in club history.  They finish the regular season 12-6 against Somerset, their best mark ever against the Patriots.  The Revs finish their seven-game road trip 4-3; no team scored more than five runs in any of the seven games.  The Revs will take on the Bridgeport Bluefish at 6:30 p.m. at Sovereign Bank Stadium on Tuesday night, sending lefty Jino Gonzalez (1-1, 3.09) to the mound against right-hander Esteban Yan (2-3, 6.80).  Gates open at 5:30 p.m. for a Fill Your Tummy Tuesday.  Tickets are available at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS and in-person at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office.
