(August 5, 2018) — Melky Mesa's walkoff single lifted the York Revolution to a 4-3 rubber-match win over the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs on Sunday afternoon at PeoplesBank Park. Before Sunday's scheduled game, the Revs and Blue Crabs completed Friday night's suspended game as the Blue Crabs came out on top, 9-8.
The suspended game resumed with one out and no one on base in the bottom of the fifth inning with the Blue Crabs leading 7-6.
The scoring picked up in the top of the sixth when Craig Maddox hit a solo homer to right off Revs reliever Joe Van Meter to extend the Blue Crabs' lead to 8-6.
Ryan Dent answered for the Revs with a leadoff home run over the Arch Nemesis in left off Crabs reliever Chris Mazza in the bottom half to make it an 8-7 game.
The Revs threatened to tie the game or take the lead in the eighth with runners at second and third and no outs, but Mazza worked out of the jam to preserve Southern Maryland's lead.
The Crabs pushed across an insurance run in the top of the ninth on Angelys Nina's two-out RBI single, making it 9-7.
The Revs got within one when Jared Mitchell scored from third on a wild pitch in the bottom of the ninth to make it a 9-8 game, but Crabs closer Cody Eppley shut the door to preserve the win.
Mazza (2-0) earned the win while Revs starter Dominic Severino (4-7) was tagged with the loss.
Sunday's regularly scheduled contest was changed to a seven-inning game because of the suspended game beforehand.
The Revs got three runs in the bottom of the first off Blue Crabs starter Casey Delgado to take a 3-0 lead. Melky Mesa drove in the first run with a double and Henry Castillo plated two more with a two-out double off the left field wall.
Revs starter Robert Carson faced the minimum through three innings but ran into trouble in the fourth, allowing two runs on four hits. Southern Maryland got on the board on Jon Griffin's RBI single and Nina followed with an RBI single, making it a 3-2 game.
Carson lasted five and one-third innings allowing two runs on eight hits with three strikeouts and no walks. Jailen Peguero took over with runners at first and second in the sixth and got out of the jam without any runs scoring to preserve the one-run lead. Peguero issued a two-out walk to load the bases, but left the bags loaded as Angelo Songco was retired on a great diving catch by Travis Witherspoon in center to end the inning.
The Crabs tied the game at 3-3 on Edwin Garcia's sac fly to right in the top of the seventh off Grant Sides, but Sides limited the damage to one run, stranding two other base runners.
The Revs came right back and loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the seventh off Crabs reliever Andrew Chaffee. That set it up for Mesa who hit a chopper over third baseman Frank Martinez' head for a walkoff RBI single to give the Revs a 4-3 win and their third walkoff win of the season.
Sides (4-0) earned the win despite suffering his fourth blown save of the season while Chaffee (2-2) took the loss.
