(August 12, 2021 – York, Pa.):  Looking to snap a five-game skid before hitting the road for six straight, the York Revolution produced late-inning insurance runs that proved the difference in a 7-5 victory over the Lancaster Barnstormers in front of 2,409 fans at PeoplesBank Park on Thursday night. The Revs earn a rain-shortened two-game split and improve their record to 8-10 in this year’s War of the Roses series.
York struck first with a first inning run on three consecutive base hits. Jack Kenley and Melky Mesa collected opposite field singles. For the 1-0 lead, Nellie Rodriguez drove in Kenley on a sharply hit single to left.
The Revs scored four more times in the second. Andrew Dundon was issued a leadoff walk and Tyler Hill followed with a single to right center. Dundon scored on the second wild pitch from Lancaster starter Augie Sylk. After James Harris walked, Kenley reached on an infield hit that scored Hill for a 3-0 lead. Rodriguez again provided the biggest hit of the inning with a two-run single off the wall in right for a 5-0 Revs lead after two innings of play.
Lancaster drew within 5-3 with three runs in the fourth. Blake Gailen led off with a single to left center. With one out, Trayvon Robinson singled to right to put Gailen in scoring position at second. Anthony Peroni drove home Gailen on a two-out line drive single to right center. After Nick Shumpert was hit by a pitch, Cleuluis Rondon hit a ground ball to second. Bobbling a relay from Kenley, Osmy Gregorio failed to get the inning-ending force out at second and errantly threw to first allowing two more runs to score for Lancaster.
It remained a two-run game until the seventh when two big insurance runs crossed for York. Rodriguez ignited things with a leadoff single off the Arch Nemesis in left. A pinch-hit double followed from Josue Herrera to put himself and Rodriguez in scoring position. With two outs, Hill slammed a line drive off Lancaster reliever Cameron Gann who deflected the shot behind the mound as Rodriguez scored from third. Gann then threw the ball away in an attempted toss to first allowing Herrera to score for a 7-3 lead.
The Barnstormers continued to pressure with two runs in the eighth. Robinson worked a one-out walk and LeDarious Clark lifted a ball deep to right center for a two-run home run, making it 7-5.
Jim Fuller came on to pitch the ninth and allowed a one-out single to Caleb Gindl, but nothing else in a scoreless ninth for his league-leading 16th save and the 7-5 victory.
Duke von Schamann (4-5, 5.94) earned the win, his third facing Lancaster, allowing three runs (one earned) on three hits in five innings, walking just two and fanning two.  York relievers Alberto Rodriguez (H, 5) and Brandon Fry (H, 8) faced seven total batters with scoreless sixth and seventh innings respectively.
Sylk (2-4, 10.17) suffered the loss for the Barnstormers. The lefty allowed five earned runs on seven hits with five walks and five strikeouts.
York begins a six-game road trip on Friday at 6:50 p.m. starting with a visit to CaroMont Health Park and the Gastonia Honey Hunters. Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 98.9 FM & 1350 WOYK,, The New WOYK app, and the WOYK YouTube channel beginning at 6:30 p.m. with Darrell Henry on the call.
