REVS BLOW OUT CRABS

(September 21, 2021 – York, Pa.):  Eduardo Rivera fired his first career complete game and the York Revolution blasted four home runs in a 12-1 blowout victory over the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs on Tuesday night at PeoplesBank Park. The win is the second straight for the Revs who remain within four games of first place in the Atlantic League North Division. The series continues on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.

York took an early lead, 2-0 courtesy of the Revs’ first two batters of the game. James Harris ripped a leadoff single to left and Jack Kenley smashed a home run to right for the early one-two punch.

The Revs opened up a 6-0 advantage with a pair of additional two-run taters in the second inning.  After an Osmy Gregorio leadoff single, Harris nailed a ball over the right corner of the Arch-Nemesis for the first long ball. The second home run belonged to Nellie Rodriguez. Following Kenley’s bunt single, Rodriguez sent a ball well over the Nemesis for two more runs on his 19th of the season.

Home runs kept coming for York as Carlos Castro greeted Blue Crabs starter Josh Roeder in the third with a solo home run to left center for a 7-0 score. It was Castro’s 14th of the season, coming in his first game back after a stint in the Mexican League.

The Blue Crabs broke up the shutout bid with a run in the seventh as Jonathan Galvez worked a leadoff walk and scored on a double to deep right center from Joe DeLuca.

York answered with a five-run, bat-around seventh inning. Josue Herrera, Castro, and Welington Dotel all singled to load the bases. An RBI ground out from Gregorio plated the first run in Herrera and moved everyone else over a base. With two on and one out, JC Encarnacion drilled a sharp single to left for two more runs. After Harris smashed his second double of the night moving Encarnacion to third, Kenley drove in his third on a sac fly to right and Carlos Franco followed with an RBI double clobbered off the center field fence for the 12-1 lead.

Eduardo Rivera went all nine in his first career complete game. The right hander allowed just one run on four hits, five walks, and a season-high eight strikeouts in a 119-pitch effort. It is the third total complete game for York this season and the first nine-inning complete game since RHP Alex Sanabia’s on June 9 in Waldorf against Southern Maryland (9.0 IP, 3H, 1R, 3BB, 8K). Of the four hits allowed, two came from Southern Maryland’s first two batters of the night.

The season’s final series with the Blue Crabs continues Wednesday evening at 6:30 p.m. Duke von Schamann (5-8) will start for York opposite Southern Maryland’s Kolton Mahoney (7-5). It is Friends Night with a Friends Jersey Auction presented by PeoplesBank. It is also PeoplesBank Client Appreciation Night. Tickets are on sale at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in-person at the Shipley Energy Ticket Office.

Notes: The Revs posted their highest run total since a 13-run performance in Lancaster on September 7, and their highest hit total (16) since a win vs. Southern Maryland on August 29.  Harris’ four-hit game is his second of the season and he joins Encarnacion and Kenley as the third Revs batter to rip three extra-base hits in a game this year. York’s four home runs as a team ties a season-high for the fifth time.  Tuesday marked the third consecutive game that a Revs starting pitcher allowed just one run while going at least seven innings; starters have combined to allow three runs on just 13 hits in 23.2 innings (1.14 ERA) on that stretch.
