REVS RIP 'STORMERS

(May 14, 2022 – Lancaster, Pa.):  For the second straight night, the York Revolution were powered by both great pitching and big innings offensively to pick up their first series win of the year and their first set of back-to-back victories, 11-3 over the Lancaster Barnstormers.

Lancaster got things started early when Kelly Dugan, returning after missing three games due to illness, launched a solo home run to the right field pavilion, giving him his fourth in four games against York and the Barnstormers a 1-0 lead.

York got one back in the top of the second as Jack Kenley beat out a potential inning-ending double play ball, scoring JC Encarnacion to tie the game at 1-1.

The fifth inning was the big one for York that turned the tables. For the second straight night, the big rally started with two outs as York got a double from Jack Kenley, who scored one batter later on a Lenin Rodriguez RBI single up the middle to break the tie. After two more reached, Melky Mesa came up with the bases loaded and delivered with a grand slam to right-center field, the first of his Revs career, expanding the lead to 6-1.

Lancaster got one run back in the sixth inning on a second solo home run, this time to right-center off the bat of LeDarious Clark.

The two solo longballs were the lone blemishes of a fantastic outing from Rivera (1-0) who dazzled in his spot start. In six strong innings he allowed just three hits and struck out seven, the second most in his Revs career.

York received major insurance with another big inning in the seventh. Encarnacion got things started with a two-run single, and with two outs, Troy Stokes Jr. drove a bases-clearing double off the right field wall to make it 11-2.

Duke von Schamann was called upon to finish the game, retiring the first six he faced before Clark hit his second longball of the night on an ambush to left-center on the first pitch of the ninth to make it 11-3. Von Schamann bounced back, retiring the next three he faced, picking up his second career save and first since 2014 with Double-A Akron. He went three innings giving up just one hit while striking out two.

The Revs will send Nick Travieso (1-1) to the mound opposite Dominic DiSabatino (1-2) looking for the sweep on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.  Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 98.9 FM & 1350 WOYK, 989woyk.com, The New WOYK app, and the WOYK YouTube channel beginning at 12:40 p.m. with Darrell Henry and Jake Ness on the call.

Notes: York has outscored Lancaster 19-6 in the current series after being outscored 40-16 in a sweep suffered in Lancaster two weeks earlier.  York had combined for just seven runs over its previous four games.  The Revs are now 2-3 in this year’s War of the Roses series.  York has scored 14 of its 19 runs in the series with two outs.  The Revs have put up three innings of five runs or more in the series after enjoying just four such innings in the first 18 games of the season.  York has 20 hits including 13 extra-base hits (10 doubles, three homers) on the weekend and is 10-for-24 (.417) with runners in scoring position.  Mesa’s grand slam was the first by a Revs batter since Carlos Franco cranked one out at Clipper Magazine Stadium on September 7, 2021.
