(August 30, 2022 – York, Pa.):  Eduardo Rivera turned in another scintillating effort as the York Revolution edged the Staten Island FerryHawks, 3-2 on Tuesday night at PeoplesBank Park.  The win was the 600th for Mark Mason as Revolution manager, as he becomes the fourth in Atlantic League history to 600 wins and the second to win 600 games with one club.  The victory snaps a three-game slide and is the Revs’ third consecutive victory at home.
After a brief 15-minute delay at the outset, York and Staten Island faced off in a tight affair in the series opener.  Both starters got through their first three innings scoreless as Rivera and Matt Solter stole the show in the early going.
Rivera started the fourth inning by walking Angel Aguilar, who proceeded to move up to second on a groundout and third base on a wild pitch. With one out, he scored on a slow roller from Rusney Castillo to put the FerryHawks ahead 1-0.
York didn’t wait long for an answer as Nellie Rodriguez crushed a fastball from Solter onto the lawn in right center field for his 19th home run of the season which tied the game at 1-1.
Staten Island put up a battle in the sixth against Rivera, getting two in scoring position with one out, before Rivera induced two popups to end the threat. That would end his night after 105 pitches as through six innings, Rivera (8-3) allowed just one run on two hits while striking out five. He has combined to allow just one run in 13.0 innings while winning each of his last two starts.
The first two reached for York in their half of the sixth on singles by Telvin Nash and Rodriguez before a double play gave Solter a chance to escape unscathed. The Revs got the clutch hits they were seeking, however, as Jhon Nunez (10-game hitting streak) drove his second double of the game to left center field, scoring Nash to put York ahead 2-1. After Nunez moved up to third on a wild pitch, Yefri Perez sliced a single the other way to pad the lead and make it 3-1.
Kyle Zurak replaced Rivera in the top of the seventh and issuing a leadoff walk to Dilson Herrera. The FerryHawks brought him home later in the inning as Herrera scored when Andres Noriega beat out a potential double play ball, cutting York’s lead to 3-2.
Roniel Raudes continued his dominant stretch, fresh off striking out the side on Sunday, as he whiffed two more in a 1-2-3 eighth, giving way to Jim Fuller for the ninth.
Fuller shut the door, pitching a scoreless ninth with a strikeout and game-ending double play, giving Mason his 600th managerial win in the Atlantic League.
The Revs will look to continue the momentum into Wednesday’s contest when Courtney Mack takes the ball at 6:30 p.m., opposite Staten Island’s Francisco Carrillo.  It is Sensory Friendly Night and a PeoplesBank Kids Eat Free Wednesday. Tickets are on sale at, (717) 801-HITS, and in-person at the Shipley Energy Ticket Office.
Notes: Mason joins Butch Hobson, Sparky Lyle, and Wayne Krenchicki as the fourth in Atlantic League history to reach 600 wins; Mason and Lyle are the only two to do so with one club. Raudes has held opponents scoreless in 16 of 18 outings, and without an earned run in 17 of 18 including 15 straight; he has allowed just six hits in 15.2 innings over those last 15 appearances with three walks and 24 strikeouts, while allowing no hits in his last eight appearances, spanning 6.2 innings.
