(June 3, 2018) - The York Revolution were shut out for just the second time this season, dropping the rubber match of their series 8-0 to the Sugar Land Skeeters on Sunday evening in front of 5,153 fans at Constellation Field.  York falls to 16-14, dropping the last two after winning six of its previous seven contests.
The Revs were hurt by the big inning for the second straight night as Sugar Land scored four times in the bottom of the second inning.  Denis Phipps led off with a home run to dead center field, clanging off the top of the fence 405 feet from home plate.  Kyle Kubitza followed with a double on the right field line, and Courtney Hawkins kept the string going with a bloop base hit to shallow center.  After a stolen base by Hawkins, Anthony Giansanti served an RBI single into shallow center to plate Kubitza. Hawkins held on the play before the ball landed, giving center fielder Travis Witherspoon an opportunity to throw him out at third base, but the throw glanced off the back of Hawkins and out of play, allowing another run to score and Giansanti to go all the way to third.  Alvaro Rondon elevated a sac fly to center, bringing Giansanti home to make it 4-0.
Revs starter Dominic Severino settled down, fanning Albert Cordero on a strikeout-double play with Tyler Clark throwing out Barrett Barnes attempting to steal to end the second.  Severino worked 1-2-3 innings in the third and fourth.
Sugar Land provided further trouble in the fifth.  Severino retired the first two batters on fly balls to center in a matter of two pitches, but Cordero walked to keep the inning alive and Derek Norris capitalized, ending an 11-pitch at-bat with an RBI double to left-center.  After a walk to Matt Chavez, Phipps ripped an RBI single up the middle, increasing the lead to 6-0.
Sugar Land added two more in the eighth as Kubitza scored on a wild pitch and Javier Betancourt provided a sac fly.
Skeeters starter Dallas Beeler (2-1) was nearly flawless, allowing just three hits over seven shutout innings, striking out 10 with no walks.  The righty retired 12 straight after allowing a first inning single to Welington Dotel.  Witherspoon tripled in the fifth and Michael Burgess doubled in the seventh, but both were stranded.  Beeler struck out the side twice, and notched each of his final four outs on strike outs.
Lefty James Russell closed it out with two scoreless innings in relief for Sugar Land.
Severino (2-2) suffered the loss, charged with a season-high six runs (five earned) on seven hits over 4.2 innings.
Notes: Dotel’s first inning single extended his hitting streak to an Atlantic League season-best 15 consecutive games.  Witherspoon belted a triple to left-center in the top of the fifth, his first of the season; it was the 11th triple of his Revs career, tying him with James Shanks (York 2010-13) for third on the Revs’ all-time list.  Jared Mitchell reached on an infield single in the ninth inning, extending his hitting streak to nine consecutive games.  The Revs’ road trip continues to New Britain for the first of three on Monday night at 6:35 p.m.  York righty Zac Grotz (2-0, 1.39) faces Bees right-hander Mark Hamburger (2-3, 4.59) in the opener.  Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 1350,, The New WOYK app, and WOYK 1350 on YouTube beginning at 6:30 p.m. with Darrell Henry on the call immediately following The Baltimore Baseball Show (6 p.m.) with Dan Connolly.
