CARSON CARVES UP BEES

(August 30, 2018) - Robert Carson fired eight magnificent innings in a 3-0 combined shutout victory for the York Revolution on Thursday night against the New Britain Bees at New Britain Stadium. The Revs take two of three in the series, and have also won five of their last six, seven of their last ten, and nine of their last 13 ballgames, returning home to open a seven-game homestand on Friday night.

Carson (9-6) held the Bees to just four hits, all singles, while walking only one batter and striking out seven over his eight innings of work including striking out the side in the second inning.

Bees starter Kyle Simon matched Carson through five innings as neither team could get anything going offensively.

Henry Castillo (3-for-4) led off the sixth with a first pitch single to right, and Steven Figueroa followed by cracking a first-pitch RBI double to right and advancing to third on the throw to provide the game's first run. Two pitches later, Alonzo Harris skied a sacrifice fly to right, bringing home Figueroa for a 2-0 York lead.

Jared Mitchell ripped a single to right with two outs in the seventh and stole second to set up another opportunity. After a walk to Michael Burgess, Castillo came through with an RBI single to left-center to make it 3-0.

The Revs nearly extended the lead to 5-0 in the eighth, but a potential two-run homer down the left field line by Telvin Nash was overturned and ruled foul after a lengthy conversation by the umpiring crew.

Carson was undeterred, retiring each of his final three batters after a leadoff single by Ryan Wagner to begin the home eighth, squelching any potential momentum built by the Bees.

Ricardo Gomez ran into a jam in the ninth as Deibinson Romero led off with a bloop single and Jason Rogers walked. Gomez fell behind Jovan Rosa 2-0 but induced a weak ground out. After a walk to Jamar Walton, Gomez buckled down, striking out Jonathan Galvez for the second out, and retiring pinch-hitter James Skelton on a ground ball to first base, escaping the bases loaded threat and securing the Revs' 10th shutout victory of the season and the 99th save of Gomez' pro career.

Notes: Carson worked at least seven innings for the fourth time this season and second consecutive start. It is the second time this season he's worked scoreless ball over seven innings or more, having logged seven shutout frames on June 22 vs. Sugar Land. His eight innings tied his Atlantic League career-high set on August 17, 2015 in a win at Sugar Land as a member of the Bridgeport Bluefish. Carson is now at 107.1 innings of work on the season, his highest total since 2011 at Double-A Binghamton. His nine victories establish a new career high for a single season. Gomez owns 36 career Atlantic League saves, 26 of which have come with York as he sits fourth on the Revs' all-time saves list. Figueroa has hit safely in three of his first four games with York and is now 7-for-14 at the plate since joining the Revs. York finishes the regular season with a 10-8 record against New Britain.

Up Next: The Revs host the Long Island Ducks in the opener of a three-game series on Friday at 6:30 p.m. at PeoplesBank Park. It is Game of Thrones Night at the ballpark. Tickets are on sale at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in-person at the Revs Ticket Office.
