COMEBACK NETS 700TH WIN

(May 28, 2017 – York, Pa.):  The York Revolution offense awoke late on Sunday afternoon, pulling off a second consecutive come-from-behind victory over the Sugar Land Skeeters, 3-1 in front of 3,563 fans at PeoplesBank Park.  It marked the 700th regular season victory in franchise history.  The Revs win the final two games of the series to take two of three from their division rivals, and will return to action on Tuesday evening when they open a three-game series at home against Southern Maryland.

York starter Victor Mateo matched Sugar Land starter Brett Marshall in a scoreless deadlock through the first four innings.  Sugar Land then grabbed a 1-0 lead in the fifth when Ryan Jackson led off with a double and later scored on a Wilfredo Rodriguez sacrifice fly to center.  It was the only run allowed by Mateo, who gave up just four hits in five innings, walking none and striking out one.

Marshall allowed just one hit and worked six shutout innings despite walking four.  The righty struck out six, and allowed only a Joel Guzman fourth inning double.  He capped his outing by retiring Guzman on a fly out, ending a 16-pitch at-bat to finish the sixth.

Travis Witherspoon sparked Sunday’s late comeback, drilling a leadoff single off the Arch Nemesis to lead off the bottom of the seventh.  Witherspoon advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Alexi Casilla.  With two outs, Sugar Land called upon lefty reliever Dustin Richardson to face the left-handed hitting Jared Mitchell.  A walk to Mitchell set the stage, as Derrick Robinson came through with a game-tying RBI single to center field.  Angel Franco then drove an RBI double to deep right, giving the Revs a 2-1 lead.

Witherspoon (2-for-3) added a two-out RBI single to center in the bottom of the eighth to provide the insurance run.

York’s bullpen was excellent following the five strong innings from Mateo.  Luke Westphal handled a scoreless sixth, and Hawtin Buchanan (2-2) worked the seventh to earn the win.  Chase Huchingson stranded runners at the corners in a scoreless eighth, preserving a one-run lead at the time.  Jarret Martin then fired a perfect ninth for his third save and second in as many contests.

Notes: The Revs have scored six consecutive runs with two outs including all three in the eighth inning in Saturday’s comeback, and all three in Sunday’s victory.  Mateo has held opponents to one run or fewer in five of his seven starts.  York improves to 4-3 against Sugar Land.  The Revs have won back-to-back home games for the first time since a three-game sweep of Somerset in the home opening series, April 28-30.  Witherspoon is now 17-for-40, batting .425 with nine RBI over his last 10 games, raising his average from .203 to .284.  Huchingson worked a 13th consecutive outing without allowing an earned run to begin his season.  Martin worked his 12th consecutive scoreless outing and 15th in-a-row without an earned run; he has allowed just one hit in 11.1 innings over his last 11 appearances.  Tuesday’s opener vs. Southern Maryland is slated for a 6:30 p.m. start on NASCAR Night at PeoplesBank Park.  Tickets are on sale at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in person at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office.
